Yelp Ads managed for calls and quote requests, not page views.

For some local businesses, Yelp is where customers compare and decide. For others it is a monthly charge that never turns into work. We claim and complete the profile, run the ads only where the numbers support them, and tell you plainly when they do not.

For local businesses paying Yelp or weighing it up. Yelp work for agencies runs under the agency's brand on our partner model.

Yelp profile review, with a plan you keep

Before you spend a dollar, understand how Yelp treats a business.

Yelp is neither the villain some owners think nor the free lead machine the sales call describes. It is a platform with firm rules, and the businesses that do well on it work with those rules instead of against them.

Recommended and not recommended reviews

Yelp's software automatically decides which reviews appear on your listing. Some legitimate reviews end up in the not recommended section, and nobody, including Yelp's sales team, can move them.

Do not ask for reviews

Yelp's policy tells businesses not to solicit reviews, and it penalizes businesses caught offering incentives. This is the opposite of Google, so the review playbook has to be different for each platform.

Claim and complete the profile

Photos, services, hours, service area, license details and a real description. Ads send people to the profile, so an incomplete one wastes every click you pay for.

Request a Quote and messaging

Yelp shows your response time and response rate on the listing. Answering a quote request in minutes rather than hours is one of the biggest levers you have, paid or not.

Yelp Guaranteed

For eligible home and local service categories, Yelp offers a guarantee badge that backs the customer if a job goes wrong. Where it is offered, it is worth setting up before ads run.

Ads do not change reviews

Advertising buys placement in search results and on other businesses' pages. It has no effect on which reviews are shown or how the listing is rated, and Yelp says so itself.

When Yelp Ads are worth testing, and when they are not.

The category decides more than the campaign does. People compare plumbers on Yelp. They rarely compare dentists there.

Worth testing

  • Home services: plumbing, HVAC, electrical, cleaning, handyman work
  • Restaurants and cafes, where Yelp still shapes the decision for tonight
  • Wellness and beauty: salons, spas, massage, med spa treatments
  • Some auto repair and legal categories, depending on the market
  • Any category where the free profile already brings you calls

Usually not the first dollar

  • Most dental and medical practices, which tend to see better returns on Google
  • A thin or incomplete profile, until it is fixed
  • Teams that cannot answer quote requests within the hour
  • Markets where Yelp traffic in your category is low
  • Anyone being sold ads before seeing what a click costs

Across the industries we cover, Yelp tends to earn an ad budget in home services and restaurants, while for most clinics it is a profile to keep complete and answered rather than one to pay for. Each industry page shows where Yelp sits next to Google, Meta and reviews in that trade.

Yelp run as an ad account, not as a subscription.

Category and keyword targeting

We set the categories and keywords the ads show for, block the ones that bring the wrong calls, and tighten the location so the clicks come from where you actually work.

Competitor ad opt-outs

Where Yelp offers it, we turn off competitor ads on your own listing so the people who found you are not sent somewhere else at the last second.

Budget pacing

We set a monthly cap you are comfortable with and watch daily delivery, so a busy week does not spend the whole month by the tenth.

Photos and service updates

New photos, updated services, seasonal offers and accurate hours, kept current so the profile earns the click the ad paid for.

Review responses in your voice

Every review, good or bad, gets a response written the way you would say it, approved by you until you trust us to run without the approval step.

Call and quote tracking

A tracked number and message monitoring so we count calls and quote requests, not page views, and report what each one cost.

Review first. Ads only if the numbers hold up.

Review the profile and the numbers

We look at your current profile, its recommended reviews, your response times and, if you already advertise, what the clicks have cost and what they produced.

Fix the profile, then launch

Complete the profile, set up Request a Quote and tracking, agree on a budget cap, and launch with tight category, keyword and location targeting.

Run, respond and report

We answer reviews, refresh photos and services, pace the budget, and report calls and quote requests each month. If a quote request starts costing more than the job is worth, the ads pause until the profile or the targeting is fixed.

Decide on the numbers, not on the call.

Yelp's advertising reps are good at their job, and their job is to sell you a bigger package. That is not a reason to distrust them. It is a reason to have your own numbers in front of you before you answer.

Questions worth asking

  • What does a click cost in my category and area right now?
  • Can I set a hard monthly cap, and what happens when it is reached?
  • What is the minimum term, and how do I cancel?
  • Which upgrade features are included, and which cost extra?
  • How are calls and quote requests attributed to the ads?

How we handle it

Once we manage your account, the calls come to us. We weigh every offer against what your ads actually produced last month, take the ones that pay for themselves, and decline the rest.

You get a short note explaining each decision, and the final say stays with you.

Yelp accounts run under an agency's brand.

On the partner model we manage the profile, the ads, the review responses and the calls from Yelp's sales team for an agency's clients, and every report goes out with the agency's name on it. It is one of the services the agencies on our roster can draw on.

Before you sign anything with Yelp.

Can you get our hidden or "not recommended" reviews to show?

No, and be wary of anyone who says they can. Yelp's recommendation software decides automatically which reviews appear on the main listing, it changes over time, and neither the business nor Yelp's own sales team can override it. Advertising does not affect it either. What we can do is make the profile complete and active, respond to every review that does show, and keep those responses in your voice.

Should we ask happy customers to review us on Yelp?

No. Yelp's policy asks businesses not to solicit reviews, and businesses caught offering incentives can get a consumer alert placed on their page. Let Yelp reviews arrive on their own, and put your review-request effort into Google, where asking is allowed. Our reviews service handles that side properly.

Is Yelp worth it for a dental practice?

Often not as the first dollar. In our experience many dental and medical practices see better returns from Google Ads and local SEO, because patients search for a dentist rather than browse Yelp for one. The free profile is still worth claiming and completing, since it is a citation and some patients will check it. The free review shows which side of that line your practice is on, from what the profile already brings in.

We already pay Yelp and it is not working. Can you fix it, or should we cancel?

Send us access and we will go through it. We look at what the clicks cost, what share became calls and quote requests, how fast those were answered, and whether the profile was ready for the traffic. Sometimes the fix is the profile and the response time, not the ads. And sometimes the clicks never produced work at a price that makes sense, in which case the recommendation is to cancel at the end of the term.

What do Yelp Ads cost?

You set a monthly budget and Yelp charges per click, with the cost of a click varying by category and market. Ad spend goes to Yelp; our management fee is separate and quoted after the review, once we know whether ads make sense for you at all. Read the terms on minimum term and cancellation before agreeing to anything on a sales call.

Will you deal with the Yelp sales calls for us?

Yes. Once we manage the account, the calls and the upgrade offers come to us, and we evaluate every one against your numbers. If you prefer to keep those conversations, we will prep you with the questions to ask and the answers to expect.

Find out whether Yelp is worth it for you.

Tell us your business, your category and whether you already pay Yelp. We will review the profile and any ad history and give you a straight answer on what to do next, even if the answer is to stop.

  • A free consult. A real conversation about your business, your area and what is not working yet.
  • An honest evaluation. Where you stand in search, ads and follow-up next to the businesses you lose customers to.
  • A plan you keep. What we would fix first and why. It is yours whether or not you work with us.
